COVID-19 vaccination campaign for people aged between 60 to 65 years to begin from June 8

KATHMANDU, June 2: The government has decided to resume the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 from June 8 as 800,000 doses of vaccines provided by China to Nepal on grant have already arrived in Nepal, according to Minister for Health and Population Hridayesh Tripathi. 

People belonging to 60 to 65 years of age who are yet to receive COVID-19 dose will be inoculated across the country starting Tuesday. Indicating that there is a possibility of importing additional vaccines from China and the United States in the immediate future, Minister Tripathi said that the vaccination campaign will be continued further. “As the vaccines arrive, we will continue to inoculate people,” he said. 

The Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services has decided to send the vaccines to all the districts within five days and start the vaccination campaign from June 8. Prior to this, those above 65 years of age were vaccinated in 63 districts and those above 55 years of age in 14 districts. 

Out of 1 million doses of vaccine received from China, only 500,000 are being used in the fresh vaccination drive. Tara Nath Pokhrel, Director at the Division, said that the rest will be vaccinated after the confirmation of the arrival of more vaccines from China. Nepal has a population of 850,000 people between the ages of 60 and 64.
