COVID-19 tally reaches 23 in Karnali with 12 new cases confirmed today

SURKHET, May 26: The number of COVID-19 infected patients in Karnali Province has reached to 23 after 12 new cases were confirmed on Tuesday.


According to the Social Development Ministry of the Karnali Province, twelve new cases of this fatal disease were confirmed in the last 24 hours during the lab tests conducted among suspected patients through the PCR method. They include 11 male patients and a female patient.

While eight of those tested positive for COVID-19 hail from Birendranagar-- the provincial capital city--, remaining four others hail from Bheriganga Municipality and Simta Rural Municipality of Surkhet district, according to Dr Lakshmi Narayan Tiwari, who heads the Health Services Division of the ministry. All of them recently returned home from India, according to family sources.


They have been kept at COVID-19 hospital set up in Kalagaun. “Their health condition is normal,” said Dr KN Poudel, hospital’s focal person


Of the total 23 cases in Karnali, eight are from Dailekh and the remaining others are from Surkhet district. No COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnali Province until May 19
