KATHMANDU, March 31: The COVID-19 infection has started to be seen in people returning home from different parts of India through Gaddachouki on the western border of Kanchanpur.

According to the District Health Office, Kanchanpur, daily COVID-19 infections have started to be seen in those returning from India.

"Two people who came from India have been infected." Daya Krishna Pant, head of the district health office, said, "Recently, since the infection has started to increase in India, the infection has also started to be seen in Nepali people returning home."

After the infection started spreading, the health office is giving the third and fourth doses of the vaccine against the same virus in the district from today.

"Now one or two people have started getting infected", Pant said, "The number of vaccinations against COVID-19 here is very low." He said that vaccination is necessary to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

District Health Office's COVID-19 Focal Person Siddha Raj Bhatta said that 50,000 doses have arrived in Kanchanpur for the third and fourth dose of vaccine. He said that vaccination will be done on priority basis. "Now we are having antigen test of those coming from India at the border," he said, "From today, the booster dose campaign is starting in all the municipalities of the district."

As the Nepali New Year approaches, the number of people returning home from India has started to increase. Antigen testing at the border has been tightened as well. According to the District Health Office, 48.30 percent have been vaccinated in Kanchanpur so far.

404,545 people have taken the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 virus and 364, 785 people have taken the second dose. Similarly, 216,667 people have received the third dose of the vaccine. "There are many who take the first dose of the vaccine. After that, the number of people getting vaccinated has decreased," said Pant.
