COVID-19 claims 2,001 lives in Nepal out of 269,450 infections

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: The total number of deaths due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has surpassed the 2000-mark in Nepal. 

As many as 2,001 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 as of Sunday afternoon. With seven people succumbing to the viral disease on Sunday, the country witnessed a couple of thousands COVID-19 deaths in the past eight months. The first fatality related to the disease was reported on May 16, last year. A 29-year-old woman from Sindhupalchowk district was the first victim of the disease that originated from the Chinese province of Wuhan. 

The death rate in the country stands at 0.74 percent of the 269,450 infections confirmed until Sunday afternoon.

Of the 97,264,519 detected cases, at least 2,107,554 people have succumbed to this disease worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
