COVID-19 cases keep soaring in Kathmandu Valley; 377 new cases reported in past 24 hours

COVID-19 tally in Valley stands at 4,019

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: As many as 377 more people were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Kathmandu Valley in the past 24 hours. This is the highest single-day count in the Valley since the country reported the first case on January 24.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, Kathmandu district alone witnessed 270 new cases while the daily COVID-19 count in Lalitpur and Bhatkapur was recorded 66 and 41, respectively.

Ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam shared that 1,111 people have been diagnosed with this viral infection across the country in the past one day.

As per the data compiled by the ministry, as many as 3,821 new cases were recorded in the past 27 days. Daily count in the Valley has crossed 200 four days in a row - 224 on Monday, 232 on Tuesday and 301 on Wednesday. As of Thursday afternoon, the COVID-19 tally in the Kathmandu Valley stands at 4,019 - 3,185 in Kathmandu, 510 in Lalitpur and 324 in Bhaktapur. Most of them were found to have contracted the virus after the government decided to lift the nationwide lockdown after four months on June 21.

In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the Valley, the three district administration offices in the Valley extended the ongoing prohibitory orders for another week. The order shall remain enforced until September 2 midnight.
