COVID-19 cases among frontline health workers surge in Province 5

BUTWAL, Aug 30: Province 5 has witnessed a sharp rise in the cases of COVID-19 infection among frontline health workers. 

On Saturday, Province 5 recorded 40 new COVID-19 cases that include 15 health workers. While six of these health workers tested positive for the COVID-19 are from Gautam Buddha Community Heart Hospital in Butwal, nine others are from Rapti Provincial Hospital in Dang.

The Gautam Buddha Community Heart Hospital had reported COVID-19 cases among three of its doctors two days ago. As of Saturday evening, nine more health workers including doctors and nurses have been diagnosed with the virus in the hospital. 

The hospital administration has suspended most of its services after doctors and nurses were among those tested positive for the virus.

Similarly, Rapti Provincial Hospital in Dang recorded nine new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. They include two doctors, two nurses, three health workers and two office assistants.

Sources said the test results obtained late Saturday evening also confirmed COVID-19 positive cases among nine other health workers working at various hospitals in Bhairahawa. However, the District Health Office, Rupandehi has announced to provide further details about the test results only on Sunday afternoon.
