JAJARKOT, Dec 5: The District Court – Jajarkot has sentenced a couple to life in prison with confiscation of all properties in a case involving a murder fed by property dispute.

A bench led by Justice, Lila Raj Adhikari, on Sunday incriminated, Buddhi Bahadur Khatri, and his wife, Sharmila Bali Khatri, for killing former's mother, Deumi Khatri, of Lekham area of Sakla – 1.

Both the couple had been pressing Deumi Khatri to transfer the ownership of a land property which was being prepared for use for construction of the Nalsinghgadh Hydro Power Project. They killed her after she refused to transfer the ownership without the consent of her grandchildren from her eldest son.

During the trial, Budhi Bahadur confessed to killing his mother under pressure from his wife, who had been threatening to jump off a cliff if he failed to get the ownership of the land or kill his mother.

They had buried the body at a field near their house after committing the crime by hacking the victim's head with an axe while she was asleep. They had prepared the burial ground a day before committing the crime. They even planted crops over the burial place to dispel suspicion from others.

They had buried the body on August 6 and the very next day Buddhi Bahadur ringed a false alarm in the village that his mother had gone missing. The couple then filed an application with the police to help find his mother. Police arrested the couple three weeks after the incident.

Buddhi Bahadur has been imprisoned at the Jajarkot prison while Sharmila with her two and a half year old son has been sent to Bardiya prison, District Police Office, Jajarkot, Acting Chief, Hikmat Bahadur Bohara, shared.
