KATHMANDU, March 25: Costa Rica inaugurated its Honorary Consulate in Kathmandu, Nepal. The ceremony took place at Garden of Dreams in Kathmandu last Tuesday and was attended by distinguished guests from various sectors.
The inauguration was marked by the presence of Sofia Salas, Chargé d'Affaires of Costa Rica to the Republic of India, and Dr Manish Thapa, who has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Costa Rica in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The event saw the attendance of the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of Nepal, Padam Giri, as the chief guest, alongside parliamentarians, businessmen, honorary consuls, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Nepal.

During the function, Minister Giri congratulated Honorary Consul Dr Thapa on his new appointment and expressed hope that this new diplomatic venture would pave the way for increased bilateral trade and investments between Nepal and Costa Rica. He highlighted Costa Rica's global leadership in peace and environmental conservation as exemplary for Nepal.
Addressing the program, Chargé d'Affaires of Costa Rica to the Republic of India, Sofia Salas expressed the hope that the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Costa Rica in Nepal will contribute to expanding the relations between Costa Rica and Nepal in various areas including trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
She mentioned that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on 16 August 1977 almost 47 years ago, relations between the two countries are expanding and strengthening as marked by the increasing exchanges of cooperation in bilateral as well as multilateral forums. She also highlighted the high-level visit of Former Prime Minister KP Oli in September 2018, which has laid a very strong foundation of relations between Nepal and Costa Rica.
The Honorary Consul of Costa Rica in Nepal, Dr Manish Thapa, stressed the desire to contribute to the promotion of business and investment opportunities between Nepal and Costa Rica as well as to the development of cultural, educational and people to people exchanges between the two countries.
