Correction center vandalized as inmate dies in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR, Aug 21: A correction center at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2 in Santothimi was vandalized after a mysterious death of 21-year-old youth who was put behind the bar on charge of rape.

BHAKTAPUR, Aug 21: A correction center at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2 in Santothimi was vandalized after a mysterious death of 21-year-old youth who was put behind the bar on charge of rape.


The relatives of Kamal Basnet, 21, of Manthali in Ramechhap vandalized the correction center after his mysterious death on Sunday morning.


The area remained tense the whole day following the protests.

After Basnet's death, the inmates and relatives of the deceased staged a protest on Sunday demanding a fair probe. They have also demanded action against the culprits and compensation to the deceased's family.


However, Superintendent of Police of Bhaktapur Prajit KC said that Basnet, who lost consciousness on Sunday morning, died while receiving treatment at Nagarik Hospital in Gatthaghar.


SP KC said that investigations are currently underway. He said that Basnet's left leg had a boil and that he was also going through eye problems.


However, the victims have called Basnet's death mysterious.


Likewise, a meeting of the district security committee held on Sunday formed a probe committee led by Assistant Chief District Officer Dorendra Prasad Niraula to thoroughly investigate the issue.
