KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Nepali Congress Vice President Dhanraj Gurung is under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in a cooperative savings fraud.
A formal complaint has been submitted to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, accusing Gurung of misappropriating funds from Miteri Savings and Credit Cooperative Society. This complaint is part of a larger parliamentary investigation led by CPN-UML MP Surya Bahadur Thapa, which is looking into embezzlement cases across 29 cooperatives.

The complaint, filed by Kumbharaj Gurung, the chairman of the cooperative, alleges that Gurung and his former spouse, Jyoti Gurung, mishandled funds. Jyoti Gurung is currently reported to be absconding. The couple divorced four years ago, which might be linked to the ongoing controversy.
Gurung has denied the allegations, asserting that the complaints against him were fabricated and part of a plot to trap him. He also noted that his separation from Jyoti occurred five years ago and added that it was not related to the dispute over the cooperative funds.
