NEPALGUNJ, May 19: A dispute has arisen in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis ward 18 after additional ballot papers were found in a ballot box. After the counting of votes in the ward was completed, nine extra ballot papers were found.
During the counting of votes, Deepak Kumar Verma of the CPN-UML got 2,257 votes and Mangal Prasad Verma (Sanu) of the Nepali Congress got 1,626 votes. The controversy erupted after additional ballot papers were found before the office of the Chief Electoral Officer could announce Verma as the ward chairman.
Discussions are underway between the Chief Electoral Officer, election staffers, candidates and party representatives to resolve the dispute.
