KATHMANDU, Oct 24: The consumption of petroleum products has surged by 29 percent during the Dashain festival. The consumption of diesel, petrol and aviation fuel has increased due to the high traffic of vehicles especially during Dashain. According to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the consumption of aviation fuel has been recorded as the highest.
The consumption of petroleum products, which were consumed in the same proportion in Shrawan (mid-July and mid-August) and Bhadra (mid-August and mid-September), has increased in Ashoj (mid-September to mid-October). According to the NOC, 150,510 kiloliters were consumed in Shrawan and 152,934 kiloliters in Bhadra. However, 176,597 kiloliters of petroleum products was sold in Ashoj.
Domestic consumption of petro products falls
In Ashoj, 62,730 kiloliters of petrol were consumed. In Bhadra, 57,803 kiloliters of petrol was consumed and in Shrawan, 58,211 kiloliters of petrol was consumed.
As the demand for flights increased significantly during Dashain due to roads destroyed by landslides, the consumption of aviation fuel increased by 29 percent in Ashoj compared to Bhadra. In Ashoj, 21,123 kiloliters of aviation fuel was consumed. Similarly, 15,056 kiloliters of aviation fuel was consumed in Bhadra and 14,626 kiloliters in Shrawan.
Additionally, diesel consumption has also increased by 14 percent in Ashoj compared to Bhadra. According to the NOC, 91,716 kiloliters of diesel was consumed in Ashoj and 79,396 kiloliters in Bhadra.
The consumption of gas appears to be decreasing. Gas consumption has decreased by three percent in Ashoj compared to Bhadra. According to the NOC, 45,736 metric tons of cooking gas was consumed in Shrawan and 42,803 metric tons in Bhadra. However, it decreased to 41,767 metric tons in Ashoj.
