Construction of two schools in Kavre district starts with Indian grant assistance

KATHMANDU, April 2: The bhoomipooja for the reconstruction of Shree Harisiddhi Secondary School in Roshi Rural Municipality and Shree Siddheshwar Secondary School in Mahabharat Rural Municipality was carried out on Friday by  Secretary at the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Maniram Gelal in the presence of First Secretary (Political), Embassy of India, Soumya C and the mayor of Roshi Rural Municipality. Project Director of Central Level Project Implementation Unit (CLPIU) of the NRA, officials from Embassy of India and NRA, representatives of the School Management Committee, local community members and students of the school were present in the function.

According to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Shree Harisiddhi Secondary School is being reconstructed at a cost of Rs 28.4 million and Shree Siddheshwar Secondary school is being reconstructed at a cost of Rs 39.6 million. These schools will be built as per earthquake-resilient reconstruction norms of the Government of Nepal.

The new infrastructure of Harisiddhi Secondary School will include a 3-storied block with 9 classrooms, a lab room, a library and a separate block for sanitation facilities. Similarly, the new infrastructure of Shree Siddheshwar Secondary School will include a 3-storied blocks having 13 classrooms, account section, principal and teachers’ room, exam room,

An Early Childhood Development (ECD) room, an admin room, a School Management Committee room and separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls.  The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, a premier institute in India in the field earthquake-resilient reconstruction, will provide technical hand-holding for construction of these schools, according to the embassy.

India has committed approximately Rs 5,800 million for the reconstruction of a total of 71 educational institutions across eight districts of Nepal affected by the 2015 earthquake. With today’s ground-breaking ceremony, the construction of 70 schools has started, of which, eight schools are already handed over to School Management Committees, according to a press statement issued by the Indian Embassy.
