KATHMANDU, August 21: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has constructed 628 km of transmission lines in the last fiscal year.

NEA has completed the construction of 628 circuit km of transmission lines of different voltage levels in 2078/79. According to the annual report published by the authority recently, the construction of grid substations with a capacity of 1383 MVA has been completed and put into operation during that period.

NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising said that more than half a dozen transmission lines were brought into operation last year. "Last year, 220 kV Koshi corridor of 106 circuit kilometers was put into operation," he said, "132 kV Solu corridor of 180 circuit kilometers has also been put into operation."

According to the NEA, 220 kV Marshyangdi-Kathmandu of 164 circuit km, 132 KV Motipur-Sandhikharka of 74 circuit km transmission line have also been charged and brought into operation. The Bardghat-Sardi transmission line of 28 circuit kilometers of 132 KV has also come into operation. The 132 kV Butwal-Mainhiya of 36 circuit kilometers and 132 KV New Modi-Lahachowk transmission lines of 40 circuit kilometers were completed during the year 2078/79.

New Butwal substation of 220/132 kV 100 MVA capacity was brought into operation in the last fiscal year. Similarly, the 132/33/11 kV, 46 MVA capacity Motipur substation and Sandhikharka charging station were brought into operation.

Similarly, Mainhiya Substation of 132/33/11 kV 45 MVA capacity, Lahachowk Substation of 132/33/11 kV and 38 MVA capacity, Newmodi 132 kV Switching Substation, Nawalparasi Substation of 132/33/11 kV and 79 MVA capacity, Bharatpur (Aaptari) substation of 132/11 kV and 30 MVA capacity, new Khimti substation of 220 and 132 kV and 100 MVA capacity, and Kirtipur substation of 132/11/10 MVA capacity were also operational.

According to the authority, 5,329 circuit kilometers of transmission lines of 66 kV and above voltage level and grid substations of 7149 MVA capacity are in operation. During the last 7 years, 2,705 circuit kilometers of transmission lines and 5,17 MVA capacity grid substations have been added to the system.

Similarly, 1,430 circuit kilometers, 930 circuit kilometers and 754 circuit kilometers of transmission lines of 132 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV respectively are under construction.

According to the authority, 1,470 circuit kilometers, 251 circuit kilometers and 3,000 circuit kilometers of transmission lines of 132 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV respectively are under construction.

Study and design work has been carried forward to build 10,463 MVA capacity grid substations within the next five years.
