KATHMANDU, June 21: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced that the construction of the 132 kilovolt double circuit transmission line from Sandhikharka Municipality -6 in Arghakhanchi to Resunga Municipality-7 in Gulmi has been completed. The construction of the 132 KV Tamghas substation has also been completed at Unaichaur under the same transmission line.

Issuing a recent statement, the NEA confirmed it has completed the construction of the Sandhikharka-Tamghas 132 KV double circuit transmission line and 132 KV Tamghas substation and put them into operation from Wednesday.

The substation has power transformers of 132/33 KV, 30 MVA and 33/11 KV, 16 MVA capacity. About 200 megawatts of electricity can flow through the transmission line. Three feeders of 33 KV and four feeders of 11 KV have been constructed for local power supply from the substation.

Kulman Ghising, executive director of the authority, said that the transmission line and substation will ensure reliable and quality power supply in Gulmi and also reduce technical leakage.

Until now, electricity was being supplied to Palpa, Argharkhachi and Gulmi through a 33 KV transmission line from Butwal. When the 33 KV transmission line was too long, the line tripped and the lights flickered and there was a voltage problem. Also there were technical leaks.

Ghising admitted that there were problems such as tripping, low voltage, etc because the 33 KV line was too long.

“Now, after the local power supply from the 132 KV transmission line and substation, the problem will be solved and the power supply will be sufficient, reliable and of good quality," he said, adding that a tender has been made for a 40 MW solar project with electricity flowing from the same transmission line.

Since other private sector hydropower projects will also be connected, this transmission line is the trunk line of that area.
