KATHMANDU, Sept 19: On the occasion of Constitution Day, the government has presented various decorations, awards and medals to 903 individuals. However, it is being widely criticized by politicians as well as the general public.

Speaking at a program organized by the CPN-UML on the occasion of Constitution Day, KP Sharma Oli, former prime minister chairperson of the CPN-UML, said that instead of deserving candidates, the awards have been presented to the family members of renowned people. “The government is presenting the awards to someone’s father, someone’s son etc. This is very unfortunate for our country. Why do they even need to distribute the awards, they can simply take the award home from the factory,” said Chairperson Oli.

Citing the awards received by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s wife Sita and CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal’s deceased father Mangal Prasad, Oli said, “The parents and children of the martyrs are empty handed. However, the wives, fathers, and sons of renowned people are getting the awards. This is shameful.”

Sita Dahal, the wife of CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, received the Prabal Jana Sewa Shree award. Similarly, contractor Humnath Koirala whose company was blacklisted by the Public Procurement Monitoring Office has been honored with the Prabal Jana Sewa Shree award.

In addition to this, journalist Hari Bahadur Thapa, Editor-in-Chief of Ekagaj.com has rejected the Suprabal Jana Sewa Shree award presented to him by the Nepal government. Similarly, cartoonist Rabin Sayami of Nagarik Daily has also announced that he will not accept the “Prabal Janasewashree” award given to him.
