KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Constitution Day and National Day 2081 BS are being celebrated with great enthusiasm today through various programs both in Nepal and abroad. President Ram Chandra Paudel will be attending the main Constitution Day ceremony organized by the Government of Nepal at the military parade ground in Tundikhel this morning as the chief guest.


On this occasion, the chairman of the Constitution Day Main Ceremony Committee and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will deliver an address. This evening, President Paudel is scheduled to host a reception at the Office of the President of Nepal. On the occasion of Constitution Day, various programs will also be organized by the federal, provincial, and local governments, political parties, non-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector, and social organizations. Nepali diplomatic missions abroad will also hold events to mark Constitution Day.

The Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal was promulgated on September 20, 2015 (Ashoj 3, 2072 BS) by the Constituent Assembly, as an achievement of the Nepali people's seven-decade-long struggle, sacrifices, and popular movements.


The Constitution of Nepal, consisting of 35 parts, 308 articles, and 9 schedules, has embraced federal democratic republic, inclusive democracy, proportional inclusive representation, secularism, and other principles. The Constitution is committed to building a prosperous nation based on democratic values and norms, with a dedication to socialism.


The government has been celebrating the day the Constitution was promulgated as Constitution Day and National Day every year. Today marks nine years since the implementation of Nepal's Constitution, which was issued with the full constitutional provisions of "governance by the people, for the people."


In celebration of Constitution Day, a National Day musical performance will be held at Durbar Marg in Kathmandu, organized by citizens. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Constitution Day, the President, Prime Minister, Speaker, Chairperson of the National Assembly, and top leaders of various parties have called on the public to celebrate National Day with great enthusiasm through their messages of best wishes. 


The government has also urged everyone to celebrate by lighting lamps and hoisting the national flag in honor of Constitution Day.
