Constitution amendment proposal before Nov 15: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has reiterated that the preparation was on to register the constitution amendment proposal at the Legislature Parliament before November 15 by forging consensus among the political parties including the main opposition CPN-UML. 

During a program organized on his 100 days in office, PM Dahal said government was effortful to address the demands of indigenous, Tharus and Madhesh-centric political parties. "Discussion and consultation are continuous with the political parties and leaders," he said, adding that top leaders of the major parties were meeting tomorrow to this regard. 

According to him, the government had planned to table amendment proposal before a week, but waited for some more days to garner the suggestions. 

"Constitution amendment process has advanced. No need to doubt it," the PM underlined. All sides should stand together to implement the constitution, which is also the most important task. 

The PM said that the country would get an outlet within few days as consultation with top leaders of major political parties and agitating sides was underway continuously to make the constitution acceptable to all. 

He said that CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli was also ready to help in constitution amendment process. Stating that the government was involved in a campaign to create environment conducive for holding election, the PM said election of all-three levels would be held by January 2018. 

The PM further said that the government has expedited various tasks as formulation of required laws and other preparation keeping local bodies' election in centre. 

Mentioning that provincial offices would be established in all seven provinces and members of Council of Ministers would be entrusted with the task in next week to carry out works related to the implementation of the constitution in all seven provinces, he said, a Cabinet meeting would take necessary decision to this effect. 

PM Dahal assured that the impeachment motion registered at Parliament against Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lokman Singh Karki would advance through consensus. 

"There was no doubt the impeachment issue will move ahead in agreement with political parties including Nepali Congress. For that, necessary consultations and preparations are on," he said. RSS
