KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher bahadur Deuba has said the constitution amendment would be undertaken based on a consensus.
"The important issue such as amendment to constitution should be carried out with consensus. The incumbent government may have paid its attention to that end", leader Deuba added.
NC President Deuba said this talking to journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) upon his return home after medical treatment in Singapore.
He argued the constitution amendment has been advanced to ensure ownership of all to the constitution and further ease the implementation of the national charter.
President Deuba had left for Singapore along with his wife, Arzu Rana, on August 26 for treatment. It was his first foreign trip after being elected to the post of NC President.
"I went to Singapore for no other business than health treatment. I did not make any political meeting during my stay there", Deuba replied journalists upon their query.
On another query regarding why the present government is not implementing the agreement made with erstwhile government to provide Rs 200,000 each to the quake survivors, he said, "The decision would be implemented soon. I will talk to the Prime Minister about the government's take on the issue".
Noting that the party would be run in consultation with party leaders and cadres, he informed that the vacant office-bearers would be nominated without any delay.
The NC President was received by party treasurer Sita Devi Yadav, Ministers, lawmakers and party central members at the TIA today. RSS
