KATHMANDU, July 14: Three umbrella private sector organizations have stressed the need to protect both industry and employment inside the country, following the losses and the uncomfortable situation faced by private businesses due to the spread of COVID-19.

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) issued a joint statement on Tuesday stating that the workers have no other alternative but to make more conscious efforts to revive and restore the economy.

The organizations have urged the workers to get out of the situation as soon as possible while maintaining an industrial peace environment in order to run the business and industries smoothly.

Earlier, the government had decided to increase the minimum remuneration from Rs 13,450 to Rs 15,000  to take effect from July 16 for all workers except the tea industry. The amount was increased by including the minimum salary of Rs 9,385 and a dearness allowance of Rs 5,615.

According to the umbrella organizations, only the minimum wage has been increased and the increase in minimum wages is not for workers of all levels.

The organizations stated that the increase in the minimum wage does not mean that everyone is liable to get it as the allowances above the minimum wage will be decided according to their establishment’s financial status.

The statement was signed by the President of FNCCI, Shekhar Golcha, President of CNI, Satish Kumar More and President of NCC, Rajendra Malla.
