Complaint filed at CIAA against EC officials

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: A complaint was filed at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against the officials of the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday, accusing the officials of committing corruption by acquiring illegal assets.

The complaint of corruption has been filed at the CIAA against EC office-bearers including the chief election commissioner, officials, secretaries, deputy secretaries, accounting officers, and office managers.

President of 'Anti-Corruption News' company, Bishwaniti, Prakash Man Singh Pakharin has filed a complaint against them accusing them of committing corruption worth millions of rupees while purchasing election materials recently. The complainant has demanded an investigation, alleging that fuel expenses, vehicle expenses have gone beyond the limit, and that the EC officials have earned illegal wealth by producing fake receipts for vehicle repair.

"For election purposes, low-quality ballot boxes, ropes, ballot papers, amnd swastika stamps were purchased. They have committed widespread irregularities by showing quality materials in the receipts. A detailed inquiry and investigation should be conducted against the officers and employees of the Election Commission," the complaint says.

In the complaint, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, Commissioners Ishwari Prasad Paudyal, Ram Prasad Bhandari, Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, Sagun SJB Rana, Secretary Gokarna Mani Dawadi, Deputy Secretary Mukunda Keshari Pokharel, Accounts Officer Bishnu Prasad Neupane, Bishwaraj Dahal of logistics department have been accused of committing corruption.
