Complacency

Coherence tells me up-front About my right to shimmer That, as a rainbow I must not deny glimmer, I see my indifference
By Mansi Karna

Coherence tells me up-front

About my right to shimmer

That, as a rainbow

I must not deny glimmer,

I see my indifference

Stare into the horizon

Like a nascent garden does

A nascent garden

That craved to mature

Into multi-chrome

But was set on fire by

A failed envious gardener

Making it sit

Reduced to a grinded mass

Of black and white ashes

Waiting to be engulfed by

The soil

Coherence tells me up-front

About my duty to be in shape

That, as a rainbow

I must not escape

The responsibility to be sinuous,

I see my indifference

Stare into the horizon

Like a tree trunk does

A tree trunk

That had long sought to

Be carved into an idol

But eventually became an instrument

Against people’s chill

And got burnt into ashes

Losing all its shape

And which now sits

Powdered, scattered

Waiting to be tramped down

Or thrown into the bin

Coherence tells me up-front

About man's caprice

That, as a rainbow,

I must reflect

Harmony and peace

I see my indifference

Stare into the horizon

Like an apathetic lioness does

An apathetic lioness

Feeble and famished

Who had long searched for prey

Even abandoned her den

In search of prey

But in vain

So, with a grieved heart

Chucked up the sponge

And who now sits

Crusted in lassitude

With hope against hope

To eat his fill

Coherence asks me up-front again

To act to retain

My color, my function and my shape

I see my indifference

Smile to it and say,

“I function to reflect

Ironies scattered on the floor

Imperceptible elements

Standing on the door

Even without ideal color and shape,

I am a proud rainbow

Maybe you call that complacency.”
