KATHMANDU, July 3: A company that has signed an agreement with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to manage the garbage in the Putalisadak area of Kathmandu, has been piling it up on the sidewalk.

The company named Swachha Batabaran Swastha Manavjeewan, which has signed an agreement with the KMC to collect garbage in the Putalisadak area, has piled the garbage up on the sidewalk. Uddhav Mainali, a worker of the company, who was found piling up garbage on the sidewalk, said that he was forced to pile up on the sidewalk as it would take time for the garbage-carrying vehicle to arrive.

Although cholera has spread in the capital due to the seepage from garbage, the bodies concerned have not been able to pay attention to it. Even when garbage is piled on the sidewalks of the main roads of the capital, the locals do not say anything. "We are compelled to remain silent as nothing will happen even if we speak," says Ram Chandra Shrestha, who has been running a shop in the area.

Shrestha said that the company responsible for garbage management in the Putalisadak area piles up garbage on the sidewalk of the area while garbage is being collected in other parts of the capital. The locals have complained that the problem has arisen due to the lack of monitoring of the work of the company entrusted with the responsibility of waste management by the KMC.

Although the KMC has issued a public notice to sort and manage biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, it seems people in the Putalisadak area dump both types of waste at the same place.
