Body formed to probe Lamichhane’s police custody photo

A committee has been formed to investigate the release of a photo of Rabi Lamichhane in custody on social media. The investigation committee is led by SSP Mukunda Marasini, the head of Gandaki Province Training Center.

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: A committee has been formed to investigate the release of a photo of Rabi Lamichhane in custody on social media. The investigation committee is led by SSP Mukunda Marasini, the head of Gandaki Province Training Center.


The probe body has been instructed to submit the report within three days, said DIG Bhola Bahadur Rawal, the chief of Gandaki Province Police. "The committee has been directed to find the truth and submit the report within three days," he said. "Lamichhane has been provided with newspapers and books to read and the facility to meet with leaders at any time."

After a photo of Lamichhane in custody was published, social media users criticized the police, claiming that he was being held with special privileges. Supporters of Lamichhane accused the authorities of violating human rights and privacy by releasing the custody photo. It has been reported that former Home Minister Lamichhane, who has been under police custody for the past two months, has been provided with comfortable facilities while in detention.
