KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana has scheduled 10 benches of all kinds of cases including habeas corpus for hearings today.

Chief Justice Rana has fixed 10 benches. He has, however, not set any bench for himself. Of the ten benches, eight are joint and two are single benches. The hearing has not started even though the benches have been fixed in the court.

All but five justices at the apex court have refused to conduct hearings after raising serious questions over the professional integrity of Chief Justice Rana. They have alleged that Chief Justice Rana had sought a ministerial berth to his relative in the recent cabinet expansion made by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. 

The Supreme Court has not been able to hear the case since the agitating lawyers started sit-in protests in the SC premises. Meanwhile, justices have conducted hearings on a few cases related to habeas corpus.
