Police doc taken to court over fake academic credentials

KATHMANDU, July 9: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday filed a chargesheet against SSP Dr Maheshman Pradhan of Nepal Police at the Special Court, Kathmandu on the charge of tampering with his educational credentials to enter the force.

CIAA issuing a statement said that SSP Pradhan of Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajagung had altered the date of birth on his original certificate of I.Sc and B.Sc and had submitted the certificates to join the police institution 13 years ago.

“The commission has sought a maximum punishment under sec 12 and 29 (2) of the former Corruption Control Act, 1961 and sec 16 (1) of prevailing Prevention of Corruption Act 2002,” the statement reads as.

SSP Dr Pradhan, who worked as a senior consultant abdominal surgeon (General and Laparoscopic) at the Police Hospital, has also been practicing at Global Hospital Pvt Ltd and also at Blue Bird International Clinic in Kathmandu for the past few years.

The doctor was accredited Ph.D. in Surgery from Moscow Regional Scientific Clinical Institute during 1994-1998 and M.D. in General Physician from Azerbaijan State Medical Institute.

Meanwhile, CIAA has also charge-sheeted former assistant manager (computer) Jayaram Gautam Nepal of Nepal Oil Corporation, Babarmahal on the charge of submitting fake and forged academic certificate of intermediate in commerce.

 Based on the complaints, CIAA had investigated that Gautam had presented fake academic credentials received from Bihar Intermediate Education Council, Patna, India in 1993 to get promotions in the jobs.
