KATHMANDU, July 31: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started investigation into the controversial multi-million rupees land procurement deals made by the state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

The anti-graft body initiated investigation after Republica exposed that Rs 670 million was scammed in the land deal in collusion with senior NOC officials. The lands were procured in several locations for constructing fuel depots.

CIAA spokesperson Shiva Raj Koirala said they have started investigation into the controversial procurement. “Investigation has been started on the basis of complaints received at our office and the issues that have been reported by the media. We will investigate into all aspects of the land procurement deal,” he said.

Koirala said that the CIAA has already written to the NOC to furnish details about the legal procedures followed to procure the lands.

Sources said the CIAA started minute study on the land procurement deals as per the directives of its chief Deep Basnyat.

Officials said the CIAA will also collect details from the parliamentary committees as two committees have already started investigation into the matter.
