CIAA files five cases against 13 individuals accused of using fake bills to embezzle state’s fund

KATHMANDU, August 9: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday filed five cases against 13 individuals accused of being involved in corruption by producing fake documents.

In one of the cases filed by the CIAA at the Special Court, Kathmandu, the anti-graft body has accused seven individuals working in Mugu district for misappropriating Rs 2.04 million. Officials at the Mugu Division Forest Office, Bharat Bahadur Budhathapa, Sub-engineer Gore Singh Baduwal and Himal Kumar Malla, chairman of Road Construction Consumer Committee Surendra Bahadur Budha and Vice-chairman Ganalal Baduwal are among the accused.      

Likewise, Raj Bahadur Bam, a non-gazetted officer at Palata Rural Municipality of Kalikot district, has been accused of embezzling Rs 234,011. Bam has been accused of producing a fake bill of sewing machines purchased for programs targeted for uplifting deprived community people.  

Ratna Prasad Pandey, an official of Guthi Chaur Rural Municipality, Jumla, has been accused of embezzling Rs 388,750 of Agriculture Training Program through fake receipts. The CIAA grilled the executives of the building construction committee of Allo Bhango Processing Center, Kalikot, Nanda Prasad Pandey, Narendra Prasad Pandey and Binita Rana Pandey for embezzling Rs 251,529.

The CIAA also filed a case against Kamal Prasad Khanal, coordinator of Nepal Climate Change Support Program in Kalikot district. Khanal has been accused of producing fake receipts to embezzle Rs 326,497.
