Chitwan Festival kicks off

CHITWAN, Jan 9: Chitwan Festival and Central Regional Industrial Fair started here on Sunday with the objectives of promoting local products and exploring new business opportunities in agriculture and industrial sectors.



The event has put special focus on promotion of dairy farming amid deepening shortage of dairy products in domestic market due to insufficient production of fresh milk. [break]



A statute of a cow inside a shed has been erected at the festival venue on the bank of the Narayani River to raise awareness among farmers on commercial dairy farming.



Food festivals, mini-zoo, beach volleyball competition, Paramotor rides, rafting, boat race and aquatic events are some of the attractions of the 10-day event. Besides, the event will also feature different interactions and symposiums to exchange innovative ideas among businesspeople and experts.



Finance Minister Surendra Pandey inaugurated the festival amid a ceremony. The event is expected to draw more than 300,000 visitors and record transaction worth over Rs 120 million.



Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has been organizing the festival for the one and a half decades in collaboration with Ratanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and local bodies.



A total of 453 stalls have been set up to showcase different products and services. Similarly, model houses depicting culture of local ethnic communities such as Tharu, Darai, Chepang, Kumal and Bote are the other attractions of the event. Thirty-six stalls deal with dairy products.



Uttam Lal Chuke, president of CCCI, said a national level symposium on dairy production will be organized on the sidelines of the event to encourage farmers toward commercial dairy farming.
