Chitrakar bags IME-Global-IME Bank Photo of the Year award

KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Photo journalist Navesh Chitrakar has won the IME-Global-IME Bank Nepal Photo Contest 2076 BS.

Chitrakar’s photo that shows a two-year old child Bajrangi Mishra, who waves his hands to his mother before breathing his last, was declared the best photo in the contest organized by Photo Journalist Club in association with Nepal Tourism Board. The child from Bariyapur, Rautahat met with an untimely death after suffering from hydrocephalus disease.

Photo journalist Chitrakar also won the first prize in two other categories and third prize in one category.

Similarly, photo journalist Suraj Shrestha bagged the top prize under Shikhar Insurance Nepal Smile category, while Gopen Rai’s photo won the Cell Pay Daily Life category. Dipen Shrestha, likewise, won the first prize under Arghakhanchi Cement News category.

Meanwhile, Subir Thapa bagged the first prize under City Express Culture and Tourism category, Bikash Dware and Navesh Chitrakar won the first prize under Dish Home Sports category and Neptos Photo Story category respectively.

The winner of IME-Global-IME Bank Photo of the Year received Rs 100,000 in cash. The first, second and third prize winners of each category received Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 cash prize each.

The jury headed by senior photo journalist of Agence France Presse (AFP) South Asia Jewel Samad had decided the winners keeping in view of several considerations. The jury board included senior photo journalist Mani Lama, Bikash Rauniyar and Prakash Mathema, Kimff director and senior journalist Ramyata Limbu, senior writer and documentary producer Shekhar Kharel.

The jury had selected 176 best photos including the winners of the exhibition. The photos will be exhibited at Nepal Art Council in Babarmahal, Kathmandu from March 1 to 6.
