Highly furnished, ultra chic, top of the range and relatively inexpensive modern and traditional Chinese furniture have become successful in making good impression on local buyers, according to traders dealing with China made furniture.

Madan Joshi, managing director of Furniture Land at Bluebird Mall, Thapathali, said Chinese furniture is fast dominating the local furniture market particularly because of the fact that they are affordable despite their high quality and design.

Demand for furniture for décor purposes is on the rise in recent years. Due to this growth in taste for interior decoration, stores around have started introducing higher quality furniture instead of the low quality and cheaper furniture range that used to dominate the market a few years ago.

"We were one of the first stores to introduce higher quality Chinese furniture. Now, many stores are dealing with Chinese furniture because of high demand in the market," Joshi added.

Chinese furniture items are made of MDF wood or by combining machine pressed wooden dust with original wooden pieces. Low sofas, treasure chests, luxurious pure dark leather swivel chairs, classy dining table are some of major Chinese furniture varieties that have been attracting customers at large.

"Though the demand for local furniture is also growing, demand for Chinese furniture is high because they meet taste and preference of local people," said Suresh Shrestha, managing director of Bira Furniture at Patan Industrial Estate.

He further added that Chinese furniture are comparatively expensive than the locally made ones but are reasonably priced as compared to furniture imported from other countries.

"Since Chinese furniture items are durable and come with guarantee, the price is worth spending," Shrestha said, adding, "We are dealing with furniture by around 10 leading brands of China." He, however, suggested people to go for furniture having brand name and hologram.
