KATHMANDU, Dec 25: China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday said that 122 Chinese nationals staying illegally in Nepal were arrested during a joint operation carried out by the police force of Nepal and China. Geng Shuang, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told reporters in Beijing that the Chinese were apprehended for their involvement in suspicious cross-border cyber activities.

“As per the information that I have received, they were found to have been involved in suspicious cross-border cyber activities and an investigation against them is currently underway,” he told reporters during a press meet.

Geng also said that the crackdown was possible with the joint operation of the police force of both the countries.

“China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Nepal in various fields including law enforcement,” added Geng.

He also said that China is interested in curbing cross-border crimes and promoting exchange of people between the two countries.
