KATHMANDU, Sept 7: The Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Friday confirmed the official visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

MoFA in a press statement said Wang is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on a three-day visit to Nepal beginning Sunday. During Wang’s stay in Nepal, he will call on President Bidya Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Oli.

Wang and his Nepali counterpart Pradeep Gyawali will hold delegation-level bilateral talks on September 9, said the press statement. The visit is expected to pave way for the visit of President Xi in Nepal and possible agreements between the two countries under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

President Bidya Devi Bhandari during her visit to China in April to address the second BRI Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing had extended invitation to Chinese President Xi to visit Nepal. President Xi had then expressed his willingness to visit Nepal at his convenient time.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Kathmandu in the course of his five-day state visit to India beginning from October 11.
