China visit fruitful: Speaker Mahara

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has taken his five-day visit to China as fruitful. 


Talking to media-persons upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport today, he said his visit helped further strengthen mutual and friendly ties between Nepal and China. 


Informing that he had had courtesy talks with Wu Yingjie, Secretary General of the Communist Party of China Party Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region and other office bearers, he said, "Issues of historic and diplomatic relations among Nepal, Tibet and China, trade, investment and tourism were discussed during the meeting."

Speaker Mahara was on a five-day visit to China's Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) on September 7 at the invitation of Qi Zhala, Chairperson of TAR Government. 


He was invited as a guest in the opening ceremony of the Fourth China-Tibet International Tourism and Culture Expo 2018 that held on September 7 in Lhasa, and as the chief guest in the Trans-Himalayan Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum that held on September 10 in Lizhi City. 


On the occasion, Speaker Mahara put his views regarding how the mutual relations and interests of the people of Nepal and TAR could be enhanced through the Belt and Road Initiative pursued by China. 


Mahara led the 10-member delegation to the TAR. 


In course of the visit, Speaker Mahara had laid the foundation stone for the construction of a building of the Nepalese Consulate General in Lhasa, the Nepal-China Friendship Bridge at Tatopani on the border between Nepal and China and the Rasuwagadhi bridge to be constructed at the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa. 


The Consulate General building is being constructed with the support of the central government and the government of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. RSS
