China-South Asia Expo kicks off in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: 'China-South Asia Expo' has kicked off at the Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu.

Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet inaugurated the four-day expo amid a program held on Thursday.  

Yunnan International Exposition Affairs Bureau and Nepal-China Executives Council are jointly organizing the expo that showcases various from China and South Asian countries in 150 stalls. 

Products and services related to energy, investment, mineral, electronic and information technology, biopharmaceuticals, culture, tourism, home appliances, tea, handicrafts, ethnic costumes, food processing and food packaging, among others, are being showcased by Chinese businessmen at the expo.

According to the organizers, this is the first time that the expo is being held outside China. 
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the organizers said that the expo aims to work as a cultural and economic bridge for the region and promote regional communications.

Nepal and other South Asian countries are mainly showcasing gems and jewelry, leather products, readymade garments, tea, coffee, footwear, tourism products and handicraft products at the expo.
