KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel has said that children aged between 4 to12 years would be vaccinated against COVID-19 at the earliest as per recommendation by the World Health Organization.

At a program organized by the Reporters’ Club on Saturday, Minister Poudel said that vaccination drives would help avoid adverse impacts in the education sector which was already affected due to the third wave of COVID-19.

“We have made public the examination schedule of SEE in order to ensure that the pandemic does not hamper the educational sector. We will conduct +2 examinations after the local level election. We have arranged vaccines for all students,” he assured.

The incumbent coalition government has announced to hold the local level election on May 13 this year in a single phase.

The examination system of the Tribhuvan University (TU) has been reformed, said the minister while adding that a decision was made to construct Teachers' Hospital in Chitwan and Central Library of TU at Jamal, Kathmandu.

Also, those medical schools taking exorbitant fees from the students have been warned not to do so. The bills relating to higher education, federal education and technical education would be forwarded for deliberation once the parliamentary impasse is cleared, he said.

According to him, they were preparing to effectively implement the ‘Padhdai padhaudai’(Earning while learning) programme at all levels. He also assured that the education sector would get 20 percent of the total annual budget starting the fiscal year.
