LALITPUR, July 18: The erstwhile Central Child Welfare Board has been dissolved to be replaced by the National Child Rights Council.
The Council comes into effect following the federal structure adopted by the new Constitution. The Council will gradually be expanded to all the 753 local government units in the country. Minister for Women, Children and Elderly Citizens Thammaya Thapa inaugurated the council at a function held at the Srimahal on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Thapa expressed the confidence that the local levels would work effectively in protecting and promoting the rights of children in the country.
Former member of the Central Child Welfare Board Gauri Pradhan suggested integrating all the child organizations in the country and move them ahead based on an assessment. National Human Rights Commission member Mohana Ansari stressed the need for an effective mechanism for children who are vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking.
