BARDIYA, Dec 23: A child has died in a tiger attack. A 12-year-old boy, Sumit Tharu of Barbardiya Municipality-4, lost his life in a tiger attack on Saturday afternoon.
The Head of the Division Forest Office, Prabin Bidari, reported that the fatal incident occurred in Barbardiya Municipality-4 Jira Community Forest.
Human-Tiger Coexistence Amidst Rising Tiger Population
Bidari said that local field staff have suspected that a tiger or leopard might have attacked the child. He added that the specific species responsible for the attack remains uncertain.
DSP Tulsiram Aryal at the District Police Office in Gulariya confirmed that the attack took place at 12:30 noon. "The deceased boy had gone to bathe in the Babai River and was attacked by a tiger while returning to the Jira community forest after bathing," explained DSP Aryal.
The seriously injured child succumbed to his injuries at RC Memorial Hospital Jayanagar at 1:30 PM.
The incident highlights the tragic consequences of human-wildlife encounters and underscores the need for increased awareness and measures to ensure the safety of communities living in proximity to wildlife habitats.
