Chairperson of Falgunanda dies of heart attack

PAANCHTHAR, Feb 9: Chairperson of Falgunanda Rural Municipality in Paanchthar district as well as an established litterateur Amar Kumar Nembang died on Saturday following a heart attack. He was 77.

Nembang's sudden death has left the whole district grief-stricken. He had a long career in politics as a leader of Nepali Congress (NC). After delivering a speech at a program organized in the rural municipality center Panchami Bazar on Saturday, Nembang was about to take his seat when he fell unconscious. He was rushed to the Ilam District Hospital where medical Superintendent Dr Pawan Jung Raymajhi stated that he had suffered a sudden heart attack.

Family members had even arranged a helicopter to take him to Kathmandu for treatment but Nembang died at the district hospital. He has been repeatedly elected as the chief of his VDC in the past and was elected as the chairperson of Falgunanda during the last local elections. Narendra Kumar Kerung, NC's district chairperson, said Nembang's death is an irreparable loss to the entire district.

Nembang had earned the reputation of a social, political and educational leader in his local unit. He had won the hearts of people with his concept of developing an ' Eco village' and 'Smart village'. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Expressing his condolence to Chairperson Nembang, Indra Bahadur Angbo, Minister for Financial Affairs and Planning of Province 1 stated that his death has saddened him.

He had published several books and poems. In 1970, he acquired his Master's degree in political science from Tribhuwan University. He had completed his school from St Joseph School in Darjeeling and graduated from the West Bengal University.
