RAUTAHAT, September 2: Central leaders of various political parties have expedited their visits to the election constituencies of Province 2 in order to prepare for the third round of local polls scheduled for September 18.

These days, leaders are busy persuading as much voters as possible in order to make their candidates win. With the date for the polls inching closer, leaders and cadres have intensified their meetings with the prospective candidates as well as locals.

Recently, top leaders of various parties such as senior leaders of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Co- Chair of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Ashok Kumar Rai among others met with the locals of Rautahat. There are two municipalities and 16 rural municipalities in the district.

With not much time left for the elections, political parties are finding it hard to choose candidates for various posts.

Fixing candidates has also been a tough job for the parties because the number of candidates vying for various posts is high this time. There are many aspirants who are competing against each other to get the party ticket. They have been trying hard to persuade the party leaders for the ticket.

At this time, when the candidates should be busy making door-to-door visits, they are still not sure whether they will be selected or not. However, some of them have already started campaigning for the polls. Parties are holding meetings every other day in order to select the best possible candidates though have failed to make a unanimous decision.

There has been a rise in the number of cadres and leaders who are switching to other parties. Most of them were compelled to take this decision after seeing less probability of grabbing tickets in their own party.

During his five day visit to Rautahat, former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal welcomed more than 1,000 new members to his party while Chairperson of CPN (Maoist-Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal also welcomed around 3,000 new members. Likewise, FSFN and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) also welcomed lots of new members. The trend of switching to other parties is very common during elections.
