KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Hours after his meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav on Monday left for India. Yadav embarked on a four-day visit to attend India's National Voters' Day.
Officials at the Election Commission (EC) said Yadav is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on exchange of support.
"He is attending Voters' Day of India. During the visit, he will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding on election support," said EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.
Yadav briefly informed the staffers of the commission about his meeting with the prime minister earlier in the day. "Election laws are getting cleared by the House. We have to focus on polls preparations," said Spokesperson Sharma quoting CEC Yadav.
India marks January 25 as National Voters' Day.
PM Dahal and CEC Yadav held the meeting just ahead of the government's preparation to announce the date for the local elections. The government is preparing to announce the poll date within a week.
