KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has asked for a public debate on the draft of the Election Management Bill submitted to the Government of Nepal to be passed by the House as soon as possible.
In a discussion held by the Election Commission (EC) and Nepal Law Society with the media today, he clarified that the reform of the election law is indispensable for the governance reform of the country.

After reviewing the various elections held last year and taking into consideration the suggestions received, the Commission decided on the Integrated Election Law Bill on July 3 and submitted it to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Madhav Paudel, the former secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said that if the bill is passed, it will be a comprehensive reform, and said that political parties should also imbibe moral values in the matter of elections. The agreement in principle was received from the Government of Nepal on December 29, 2021 to draft the Bill.
