The campaign was launched jointly by the Ithari Municipality, the Sunsari chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and an NGO called Keep Itahari Clean among others. [break]
As per the plan to install two CCTV cameras in Itahari, one has already been installed at Chaurasta Chowk at the cost of Rs 150,000 by the Yuva Udyog Byapar Sangh. Another will be installed soon, according to Sameer Karki of the Sangh.
Senior citizen of Itahari, 98-year-old Tek Bahadur Shrestha inaugurated the camera amid a function on Sunday.
The cameras can record any activities within a radius of 300 meters, Karki said.
The municipality has also been organizing awareness campaign asking the locals to keep the city clean. As per the plan, after three months, anyone found littering in public will be fined between Rs 5,000 and Rs 50,000, according to the executive officer of the municipality, Ganesh Raj Karki.
