KATHMANDU, May 17: Election is not just a game of numbers but of luck as well. This saying has come true for a Nepali Congress candidate who had filed his candidacy for the chief post of Dhorchaur Rural Municipality-4 of Salyan.

Dinesh BM of NC and Devendra Rokka of CPN-UML were competing against each other for the post of chairperson of a ward. But coincidentally both of them received equal votes in the local polls conducted on Sunday. They both garnered 321 votes each.

After much discussion, election officers decided to re-count the votes to declare the final result.  But that didn't make any change as the votes were still equal. When the voters couldn't choose the representative,   District Election Officer left it to a lucky draw with the consent of both candidates. NCs Dinesh BM won the lucky draw.

Sometimes a single vote can be a game changer. Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Bimala Thapa and UML candidate Sabitri Neupane who had filed their candidacies for the post of deputy mayor of Devghat Rural Municipality must have realized the importance of each vote. Both of them had a close call in Sunday's local election. However, Thapa won the post of Deputy Mayor by defeating UML candidate Neupane with an astonishing margin of just one vote. Neupane got 2,859 votes.
