KATHMANDU, June 21: As part of final preparations for June 28 elections, the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday distributed election symbols to the candidates of several political parties and individuals contesting the elections as independents.
EC spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma said the election symbols were distributed to all party candidates and individuals in a peaceful manner. "Candidates contesting from the parties represented in parliament received their party symbols. But those contesting elections from parties other than those represented in parliament and independent candidates received individual symbols," said Sharma.
The election body has provided common election symbols to those parties which have forged electoral alliances. "In some cases, some two or three parties have forged electoral alliance.
We have provided common election symbols of their choice," said Spokesperson Sharma informing that the law allows the election body to grant common symbols if parties forge electoral alliance.
