MUGU, May 2: The filing of nominations for the first phase of local elections slated for May 14 was successfully concluded in Mugu on Tuesday.
Candidates of various political parties filed their nominations for one municipality, three rural municipality and 45 wards of the district.
In Chayanath Rara Municipality, Hari Jung Shahi of Nepali congress (NC) and Sur Bahadur Budha of CPN (Maoist Centre) have filed their candidacies for the post of mayor. CPN-UML has picked the names of Jit Bahadur Malla and Suntala Rokaya for mayor and deputy mayor respectively.

Likewise, Dhirendra Bahadur Karki of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has filed his candidacy for the mayoral post.
Similarly, in Khatyad Municipality, NC has picked Lokendra Thapa and Sarita Rokaya for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.
CPN-UML candidate Ubjan Bahadur Shahi has filed his nomination for the post of mayor and Jayananda Rokaya for the post of deputy mayor. After failing to get a ticket from CPN-UML, Amar Raj Shahi and Raj Bahadur Shahi have registered as independent candidates for the post of mayor and deputy mayor. Candidates of CPN (Maoist Centre), Birkha Bahadur Thapa have filed his candidacy for the mayoral post while Jundevi Shahi forwarded her name for deputy mayor.
Likewise, in Soru Municipality, Lok Bahadur Shahi of NC, Dharma Bahadur Shahi of CPN-UML and Puran Bahadur Shahi of CPN (Maoist centre) have filed their nominations for the mayoral post while, Rajya Laxmi Malla of CPN-UML and Bishnu Devi Devkota of CPN (Maoist centre) have registered their candidacies for the post of deputy mayor.
In Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality, an alliance of NC and CPN (Maoist Centre) has filed the nomination of Tshering Kyapne Lama for the post of chairperson and the name of Itol lama for the post of deputy chairperson.
Similarly, Sonam Lama of CPN-UML has filed her nomination for the mayoral post.
According to the District Election Office (DEO), Mugu, the lack of communication service in the remote villages has been a barrier but the detailed information of nominations will be received by Wednesday.
