NUWAKOT, Feb 12: The land victims of Nuwakot have called for resolving the land-related problems. In this connection, the District Land Rights Forum on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through Chief District Officer Uddhav Bahadur Thapa.

The district has a total of 5,000 ropanis of Birta land, which means any kind of land obtained or possessed in such a way that the land is wholly exempt from the State Land Tax.

Binda Nepal, Chairperson, Land Rights Forum Nuwakot, said the Birta issue is still prevailing in Bidur, Jiling, Ratmate, Duipipal, Gosyang, Charghare, Khadgabhanjyang, Gerkhu and Chaughada.

Total 1,558 households in the district are cultivating the Birta land having no ownership certificate.
The long-prevailed land problem has not yet been resolved, he said.

Kalpana Neiupane, campaigner of the Forum, said the genuine farmers are facing troubles in lack of land ownership. "The farmers are fighting for obtaining ownership of the land which they have long been cultivating and preserving. The government has not yet made the pro-farmer decision", reads the memorandum.
