Call of Duty heading for Android and iOS

Activision announced a new Call of Duty entry today, but it isn't for the annual high-profile series. Call of Duty: Mobile is an Android and iOS exclusive free-to-play shooter that will feature content from the Modern Warfare and Black Ops games of the past.

Developed in partnership with Tencent and running on the Unity engine, the title has been in the works since last year and was originally aimed at a China-only release. But now, the game has been officially confirmed for "previously unannounced regions," including the Americas and Europe.

The game will bring over series-staple modes such as Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy, and Free For All to the mobile arena, all playable within popular maps plucked from main series, including Crash, Nuketown, and more. The announcement also confirmed that iconic characters like Captain Price, as well as gadgets and Scorestreaks will be a part of the game as well.

As the end of the trailer teased, however, it seems in addition to the traditional multiplayer modes, Call of Duty: Mobile could have a battle royale element attached to it as well. It's unclear if this will be available at launch, but this would have the game competing against other mobile battle royale behemoths such as PUBG Mobile and Fortnite.

Activision didn't announce a release date for Call of Duty: Mobile today, but pre-registrations for the game's beta test sessions are available on its official website.
