CHITWAN, July 22: With the objective of curbing accidents, cable barrier system has been installed in Narayanghat-Mugling road section. This system has been used in two of the most accident-prone areas of the highway.

Shiva Khanal, engineer of Narayanghat-Mugling Road Project, said that the wire-rope safety barrier has been placed every 500 meters along the highway. These safety barriers were placed by a Chinese team. This is the first time cable barrier system has been used in Nepal. This has been possible with the help of Chengdu (Sichuan) Zhiquan Highway Facility Manufacturing Co Ltd of China. This is a reliable medium for road safety recognized worldwide, said engineer Khanal.

This is expected to protect all types of vehicles from falling into the river. It has the capacity of carrying loads up to 30 tons.

Narayanghat-Mugling road section, like many other roads of the hilly districts of Nepal, has been relying on W-Beam Metal Crash Barrier and New Jersey Concrete Crash Barrier for safety.

Furthermore, rumble strips too are being constructed to make the highway safer. This strip will be used in 18 bridges of the highway.
