KATHMANDU, July 14: Newly-appointed Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said that the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government will revise the budget introduced by the previous government through an ordinance as per the road map of the new government.

“The annual budget for the next fiscal year will be revised as per the need and vision of the new government,” said Sharma assuming his office on Wednesday. At a time when there is a curiosity among the general public whether the newly-formed government will give continuity to the ordinance-based budget presented by the KP Oli led government, Finance Minister Sharma has expressed his view in his first meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

“As the Supreme Court in its verdict has talked about the issues related to budget enforced through ordinance and the new government also has its own vision, we will reach a conclusion after discussion,” Sharma added. Issuing a mandamus on Monday, the apex court reinstated parliament and appointed Deuba as the new prime minister.

Acknowledging that he has little knowledge in economic issues of the country, Sharma directed the MoF officials to enhance administrative capacity to identify the actual problems of the Nepali economy and act accordingly for a recovery. He also underlined the government’s priority to provide coronavirus vaccines to all citizens.
